Imphal: In a novel move, Manipur drew lots on Friday to select the place of posting of 48 sub-divisional collectors, newly recruited by the Manipur Public Service Commission. Revenue minister Karam Shyam Singh decided on the lottery system after consultation with senior officials and chief minister N. Biren Singh. Given their disadvantages, the minister selected the valley areas and Kangpokpi district for posting of lady officers. Shyam said previously Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh each was "paid" for "lucrative" transfers or posting of an officer and he hoped to weed out such corruption. The move comes a day after the state cabinet approved a policy of transfers and posting for government officials.
