Losing 100,000 migrants ‘won’t hurt economy’

Migration Watch believes only 30,000 highly skilled workers a year should be allowed into Britain from the EU Steve Parsons/PAThe number of EU migrants coming to Britain could be reduced by 100,000 a year after Brexit without affecting the economy, according to a think tank. Migration Watch said that work permits should be given to only 30,000 highly skilled migrants from the bloc per year, allowing businesses to hire essential staff. It claims that the number of EU employees in jobs which would qualify for a visa if the applicant was from outside the bloc is 25,000. Migration Watch is also calling for restrictions on the volume of tourists, business visitors, students or retired migrants from the EU.
