The Los Angeles Times’ editorial board called Thursday for a “cease-fire now” between Israel and Hamas, making it among the first major Western news outlets to take the position that a majority of Americans say they want. “It has become impossible to distinguish between Israel’s decidedly non-surgical operation against Hamas militants in Gaza and the indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians,” the 698-word piece opens. Most of those killed in Gaza have also been civilians. “We are past the time to excuse the horror in Gaza,” the piece concluded. The piece made the Times one of first major news outlets in the Western world to call for a cease-fire.
