OTTAWA — As one federal party’s leadership race comes to an end, another party’s contest has now been called into question. Green Party President Lorraine Rekmans announced she was stepping down from her role late Friday, citing a series of allegations and concerns she felt had emerged during her “turbulent tenure” in the position. But earlier this week, Kuttner, who is nonbinary and transgender, was misgendered during a virtual event launching the party’s leadership contest. “Council voted for the investigation and voted for continuing with the Leadership Race, while the investigation is ongoing. I cannot see how we can continue safely amidst the allegations that harm is being caused to our members,” Rekmans wrote.
