The storm, packing hurricane-force winds of 80 mph, has its sights set on the British Isles and is roaring northeast at a 43-mph clip. Its hurricane-force winds extend outward a whopping 150 miles from the center. Contrast that with Saturday’s advisory, when Lorenzo briefly attained Category 5 status; hurricane-force winds then reached only 60 miles from the center. In a storm this big, hurricane-force winds could span the equivalent of the distance from Washington to Boston, Cleveland or Charlotte. Yellow warnings are up for the rest of Ireland, parts of Northern Ireland, parts of southwest England and south Wales.
