MANILA, Philippines — On Independence Day, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana called on all Filipinos to support government’s efforts to end local armed conflict. “Let us rally behind our government to end local communist armed conflict to eradicate the flaw of a foreign ideology that has inflicted division in our motherland for decades,” he said in a statement. ADVERTISEMENTHe also honored all soldiers, reservists and civilian volunteers for ensuring the safety and freedom of the nation. “We encourage every Filipino to actively participate in protecting our country and making our communities safe,” he said. Madrigal said the AFP will continue to carry out its mandate and sworn duty to protect the country and its citizens.
