Second of two partsABS-CBN Corp. Chairman Emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez 3rd applied for Filipino citizenship in October 2000, more than a decade after taking over the helm of the media company. The Immigration document notes that his parents are Eugenio Lopez Jr. and Conchita Lao Lopez, both Filipino citizens. Lopez had been an American citizen for about 50 years until his application for Filipino citizenship was approved in 2002. That would indicate that he did not renounce his US citizenship when he applied for Filipino citizenship. When Mr. Lopez asked the Bureau of Immigration to recognize his citizenship, it was for the purpose of getting official recognition of his Filipino citizenship,” the network statement said.
