At Jawi New Village, many senior citizens are past the age of 80, and are still going strong. “There should be at least 150 direct descendants in the family by now but I’ve lost track, ” said Tan, who attributes her longevity to a healthy diet. “The elderly prefer to stay in the peaceful village and spend their remaining days here while their children go out to work, ” he added. Jawi New Village has 300 houses with about 2,000 residents.
