Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, author of House Bill (HB) 3401, said the measure seeks to increase the paternity leave to 15 days from seven. HB 3401 seeks to amend Republic Act (RA) 8187 or the “Paternity Leave Benefit Law of 1996.”The 23-year-old law, authored by the late Sen. Ernesto Herrera, grants a statutory minimum paternity leave of seven days, with full pay to married male employees in the private and public sectors. In other countries, Pimentel said, fathers get up to 90 days of paternity leave, with 80 percent of their regular pay. On Thrsday, Duterte signed the Expanded Maternity Leave law.
