Long-range speed camera catches 40 drivers a day


The camera caught ten drivers who were travelling at speeds of over 100 mph BEN BIRCHALL/PAA new super-speed camera capable of spotting motoring offences from two thirds of a mile away is catching almost 40 drivers a day. The super-high definition mobile camera, nicknamed the long ranger, has caught 1,300 motorists since it was first used a month ago. It can pick up speeding and a host of other offences including failing to use seatbelts, drivers using their phones, tailgaters and obscured number plates. Gloucestershire police have been running a trial of the camera as part of Operation Indemnis, an effort to educate motorists about the importance of road safety. It has been used on the A417 and A419, busy roads that run through Gloucestershire and across the Cotswolds between the M4 and M5 and carry up to 35,000 vehicles…
