The police put out a strongly worded post on Facebook lashing out at "ill-intentioned" netizens for spreading the rumors, saying those behind the hearsay "intend to cause chaos by spreading fake news." "Such a rumor is totally groundless and fictitious resolute follow-up action will be taken," police vowed. The force also urged netizens not to "tailgate too close," Cantonese slang which means to comment on something online too hastily before the full details are revealed. A total of six police officers in Hong Kong have tested positive for the coronavirus, with the latest case confirmed on July 26.
