PONTIAC, Mich. — A partial implosion of the Silverdome failed to bring down the upper section of the Detroit Lions’ former home. Demolition company Adamo says that Sunday morning’s blasts did weaken the Silverdome and it could still fall, but it’s unclear when that might happen. Rick Cuppetilli, executive vice-president with Adamo, told the Detroit Free Press that 10 per cent of the explosive charges failed to detonate because of wiring issues that crews are investigating. The Silverdome was opened by the city of Pontiac in 1975 and the Lions left Tiger Stadium to play there. The Lions played in Detroit’s northern suburb from 1975 through 2001.
