The British Foreign Minister urged President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday to respond to the political transition plan presented this week in London by the Syrian opposition. Boris Johnson praised the deal reached by the United States and Russia on the truce in Syria and hoped it would lead to the arrival of much-needed humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians. "The Assad regime must now respond with convincing ideas of its own, not bombing, shelling and sieges," he said in a statement. He pointed out that it was "vital" that Damascus regime should now "deliver on its obligations" and called on Russia to use "all its influence to ensure this happens." Under this plan, Assad would leave power, while a new constitution would be drafted to establish a democratic and pluralistic political system.
