Lok Sabha polls 2019: Chandrakant Khaire’s path to fifth term may not be smooth

AURANGABAD: Locals here joke that Chandrakant Khaire could end up ruling Aurangabad more than Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor the city is named after. The Shiv Sena candidate is seeking a fifth straight term in the Lok Sabha. In this communally sensitive constituency in Maharashtra , Khaire is seen as a polarising figure. But he also has to deal with Harshvardhan Jadhav, Sena’s sitting MLA from Kannad who is contesting as an independent. MLA Abdul Sattar, who is miffed with the party for not giving him the seat, has declared his support to Jadhav. Right now, it looks like Jaleel, but we will decide closer to the polls,” said Arif Khan, a fruit seller.
