It was clear to me that the arrival of the global economy had created a pervasive sense of insecurity and disempowerment. In almost every country, educational systems have been shifted towards training students for the skills needed by the corporate world. In the global North, rural areas have been similarly hollowed out by global economic forces. Since food is something that everyone, everywhere, needs every day, a key focus should be on rebuilding the local food economy. The rise of authoritarianism is just one of many interrelated impacts of economic globalization.
