Dense residential localities of Selva Nagar and New Selva Nagar in the city’s prominent Karumandapam area which had been witness to recurring instances of property crimes have been brought under cameras-based surveillance to check offences. Six internet-protocol cameras have been installed at vantage points at present to cover road and street junctions in the residential localities. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) S. Prabakaran inaugurated the surveillance cameras-based Closed-Circuit Television Unit system at a function held at Selva Nagar on Sunday. Zonal chairman Gnanasekar, R.J. Raja Pandian, president, New Selva Nagar Residents Welfare Association, C. Balasubramanian, secretary, Selva Nagar Narpani Mandram, a section of residents of the locality and jurisdictional police personnel were present on the occasion. Mr. Gnanasekar said there were plans to install a few more cameras in the localities to cover more spots in a bid to check offences.
