Rounding out the top five were Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Texas and Tsinghua University, in that order. Local unis among top 100 US patent winners in '15TAIPEI--Five Taiwan universities, led by National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), have entered the top 100 list for worldwide universities granted the most utility patents in the United States in 2015. The rankings are compiled by calculating the number of utility patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which list a university as the first assignee on the printed patent. In 2015, the University of California obtained the largest number of utility patents in America, the report shows. NTHU was ranked 15th, followed by National Taiwan University (26th), National Cheng Kung University (29th), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (80th) and National Central University (85th), according to a report published by U.S.-based National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).
