Local gardaí in Carlow have made a significant seizure of heroin, with 12kg of the drug discovered in a house in the town. It is understood that a Polish organised crime group is behind the importation and distribution of the heroin. The seizure, with an estimated street value of €1.7m, was made by Carlow Drugs Unit in a follow-up search after members stopped a car in the town and found a smaller amount of heroin and cannabis. While they are also prescribed medication, they are common street drugs. On May 2, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau intercepted a vehicle in Coolock, north Dublin and discovered 21kg of heroin.
