This weekend, Protestant churches locally and across the globe are commemorating the anniversary of a reformation set in motion by a list of 95 notions nailed to a church door in Germany 500 years ago.German professor Martin Luther sparked the start of the Protestant Reformation in 1517, spurring a domino effect of religious, social and political changes across Europe. His break with the dominant Roman Catholic Church and its central authority in Rome led directly to the founding of Lutheranism and pointed the way to today’s proliferation of Protestant denominations and independent Christian churches around the world.
