Gomez was expected to be in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup but he was forced to miss the tournament after suffering an ankle injury which required surgery. The Liverpool ace has since returned to fitness and enjoyed an excellent start to the season. Gomez has been part of a Liverpool backline which has conceded just once this season. And his displays have led to comparisons with Rio Ferdinand and England’s World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore.
