McDermott was the man with the golden boot when he opened the scoring against Borussia Moenchengladbach, the Red’s first-ever goal in a European Cup final, 41 years ago, on the way to a 3-1 triumph in Rome. "I promised myself 10 years ago, maybe more, that I would sell all my medals and memorabilia,” said an unrepentant McDermott. “We had won the title and thought we had a great chance of winning the Treble, but United turned us over in the FA Cup Final. “This Liverpool team is roughly at the same point now – they are already very, very good, and this weekend they could become great.”
