Gerrard grew up in a family of Liverpool and Everton fans and chose to support the Reds after their win over the Toffees in the 1986 FA Cup final. The midfielder joined Liverpool’s youth ranks as a nine-year-old and stayed with the club until signing his first professional contract aged 18. Gerrard went on to achieve a glorious career at Anfield, playing 701 games and notably captaining the side to Champions League glory in 2005 among other successes. Speaking on The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher podcast, Gerrard tried to put to bed the myth.
