LIVERPOOL, England—If Liverpool was going to fail in its herculean task against Barcelona, then manager Jürgen Klopp wanted his team to fail beautifully. They wouldn’t compromise the damn-the-torpedoes soccer that got them this far, nor would they have any regrets. After all, they were already 3-0 down after the first leg of their Champions League semifinal. Klopp saw a strange kind of freedom in that. He reminded his players before the game that what they were trying to do was impossible.
