There is some life left in his spell as Tottenham interim manager yet, life in his team’s season perhaps. But as time wore on, so the feeling grew that there was something in this game for Tottenham. Not brilliant, but better, and Richarlison – starting his first league game since early January and booed throughout as a former Everton player – had been a nuisance throughout. Tottenham looked like a team and that’s a step forward in itself, no matter how strange it sounds. Here last April Slot’s Liverpool beat Tottenham 5-1 to clinch their first title in front of a crowd for 35 years.
