Evgeni Kuznetsov’s second power-play goal made it 5-2, seemingly sealing the deal 1:10 into the third period. Late goals by Charles Hudon and, on the power play, Jonathan Drouin made the final score deceptively respectable. A last-second second-period goal by Hudon had followed four unanswered goals by the visitors. Eleven minutes in, Logan Shaw was in the box when Kuznetsov tied it on a Washington power play. Then Tom Wilson gave Washington its first lead at 14:49 and added another at 18:11.
