Paul Byron’s shorthanded goal, 6:30 into the third period, made it a game. The Canadiens had a 14-6 shot advantage in the second period, but New Jersey scored the only goal. Kurtis Gabriel danced past Shea Weber and Victor Mete to make it 2-0 three minutes in. In the first period, Nathan Bastian beat Weber’s coverage and was alone in front of Carey Price to score his first NHL goal at 12:35. Shots were 35-22 for the team that lost.
