Yuki Iwamura/APMinneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey reiterated that local police will do their jobs but will not carry out federal immigration enforcement, responding to criticism from President Donald Trump this morning. “The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. Everyone should feel safe calling 911,” Frey said, referring to Trump ally Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City. Frey’s comments came in response to a social media post from Trump this morning, in which the president warned that the mayor would be violating federal law by not enforcing immigration operations.
