Little unity within D.C. region in effort to woo Amazon’s second headquarters

Amazon plans to open a second headquarters. There is little unity among officials in the D.C. region to woo the retail giant to their neighborhoods. (Elaine Thompson/Associated Press)When Amazon.com announced earlier this month it would open a second headquarters outside its home state, some local officials thought the best way to claim the prize might be to team up. Whichever state or locality nabs Amazon’s second headquarters, dubbed “HQ2,” gains an estimated 50,000 technology jobs the company says will pay more than $100,000 a year on average. The District plans to submit its own bid, and Fairfax County Economic Development Authority head Gerald L. Gordon declined to comment.
