President Donald Trump's decision to assassinate top Iranian general Qassem Suleimani has overshadowed the implementation of some incredibly callous domestic policies, according to Derek Burrows. (file photo)Opinion: The decision last week by US President Donald Trump to assassinate top Iranian general Qasem Suleimani may well have chilling repercussions on world peace but that action has overshadowed the implementation of some incredibly callous domestic policies. One suspects Trump's decision was a kneejerk reaction to an exchange of tweets between him and the Iranian leadership, which concluded with Iran saying: "you can't do anything". However, he will take comfort from the fact that the move has gone down well with his die-hard MAGA hat-wearing supporters and it has fortuitously blown away any chance that his latest domestic policies will come under any sort of serious scrutiny. It's of little comfort to America's poorest that their food benefits are being sacrificed to make more taxpayer dollars available for billionaires, ballistics and bombs.
