The conceit, of course, is that she must change her prickly ways before she can be magically turned back. A comedy confection, Little is colourful and bright in so many ways, alive and heartfelt as opposed to saccharine. Martin, who is best known for playing the youngest daughter on Black-ish, never veers toward cloying or precocious while playing a woman inside a child’s body. A commentary on the ripple effect of bullying, Little calls to mind last year’s Eighth Grade, once again giving representation to girls of a certain age. On the surface, it may seem like just another comedy, but Little comes across as something special with Big ambitions.
