KLANG: A race-based redelineation of constituencies is detrimental to racial harmony, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. “The exercise must reflect the multi-racial representation,” Liow said at the Kapar MCA division annual general meeting yesterday. Twelve parliamentary and 34 state seats in the peninsula may have a name change, while 13 new state seats have been proposed for Sabah. Liow, who described the redelineation as “worrisome”, said: “We do not want Malaysia to become racial and extreme.”Otherwise, this could lead to the country’s leadership facing problems in implementing multi-racial and moderate policies, he added. In Arau, Bernama quoted Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as saying that the Barisan Nasional supreme council would discuss the redelineation proposal on Sept 23 and 30.
