MALACCA: The present Malacca International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam here may be relocated to accommodate larger aircrafts like the Boeing 777, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic). Liow said a decision will be reached by end of this year whether to move the airport to another location or remain at its present site based on the recommendation from an aviation consultant. Liow noted that the initial plan was to extend the runway from the current 2,135m length and 45m width to attract more airlines to use the airport. “The ministry realises the importance of air link to historic Malacca which is also a well-known tourist destination,” he said. The airport has two parking bays for bigger aircrafts such as Airbus 320, arrival halls, departure halls and six passenger registration counters.
