Line reopens after derailment

The main train line out of Dunedin has been reopened today, after a derailment last night. The derailment, at around 9.15pm, saw a freight wagon lose contact with the tracks between Waitati and Seacliff. "There were no injuries and the wagon remained upright,'' a KiwiRail spokeswoman said. "The wagon was rerailed and moved from the site, and the train continued to Dunedin.'' KiwiRail did not know what caused the derailment, but the line had now been opened after track repairs were completed.
