Sporting took the lead in the fifth minute when Adrien Silva converted a penalty after goalkeeper Ederson fouled Bas Dost. Lindelof stroked in the free kick in the 66th to split the points. Hours before the match, an Italian man died after being caught up in fighting between Sporting and Benfica supporters. According to Portuguese media reports, Ficini was hit by a car in the early hours of Saturday when trying to escape fighting between Sporting and Benfica supporters near the Benfica stadium.
