Therese Mitchell and Brett MacDonald contemplate their ruined trip at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Photo: SuppliedA Christchurch couple are stranded at an airport in Italy after their tour group was told they cannot travel through Australia because of Covid-19 restrictions. However, when they arrived at Rome-Fiumicino International Airport they were told the Australian government had refused to allow them to transit through Sydney, Mrs Mitchell said. Mrs and Mrs Mitchell have managed to book flights home via Doha at their own expense, but she said others could not afford to do the same and were stranded. She says it is a very emotional time with many in the group, including Mrs Mitchell, breaking down in tears.
