The game was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history, and viewership was down 5% from last year and the lowest-rated Super Bowl in the past decade. The expected record handle did not materialize in Nevada, where $145,935,025 was wagered on the Super Bowl. It certainly would have produced more scoring that the 13-3 snoozer that many are calling the worst Super Bowl in history. Yet while Nevada sportsbooks won more than $10 million on the Super Bowl, New Jersey was suffering through a $4.5 million loss (13.1%) with a total Super Bowl handle of $34.9 million. Next year the Super Bowl handle will increase in Nevada, even with more states offering sports betting.
