Wanaka's Albert Town bridge. PHOTO: MARK PRICEWanaka's first traffic lights were in action yesterday for the first time. They are at either end of the one-lane Albert Town bridge on the busy State Highway 6 tourist route between Otago and the West Coast. In 2017, the bridge had an average vehicle count of 4702 per day. The lights, installed by the NZ Transport Agency to improve traffic flow, appeared yesterday to be adding a little over 10 seconds to the time vehicles spent waiting to cross.
