Lightning put on a charge, leave Titans behind in opener

Any jitters the London Lightning were feeling for their home opener were quickly erased after one quarter of their National Basketball League of Canada season. The Lightning offence went off for 29 points in the second frame — building as much as an 18-point lead — to take command and went on to beat the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans 102-93 Friday night at Budweiser Gardens. London got 60 points off its bench compared to 33 for the Titans, with Omar Strong leading the team with 19 points, including five three-pointers. The Lightning extended the lead in the third, taking it to 81-66 to start the fourth quarter. “Our guards did a really good job of getting in the paint and distributing, which made (the Titans) hug our shooters,” he said.
