When bad light forced the players off the field again at 4.45pm, shortly after tea, Pakistan were 216 for nine, with Mohammad Rizwan having played brilliantly for 60 from 116 balls. Joe Root lost the plot when Rizwan started to open up after the fall of the eighth wicket, backing off from all-out attack, but Stuart Broad brought some relief when he removed Mohammad Abbas, leg-before to the fourth delivery after the re-start.
