MANILA, Philippines — Sixth-ranked Generika-Ayala put up a valiant effort on the Day of Valor, overcoming a 0-1 deficit to steal a 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 verdict over No. 3 PLDT Home Fibr and force a rubbermatch in their Philippine Superliga Grand Prix quarterfinal duel yesterday at Filoil Flying V Center. “We’ve played PLDT in two five-set matches before so we knew this one’s going to be tight again. The Lifesavers faced an early 11-17 deficit but fought on and closed in on the Power Hitters at 21-23 only to surrender the opening frame on back-to-back tip and block by Jasmine Nabor. Generika-Ayala spoiled the 23-point explosion of PLDT’s Kendra Dahlke, who got scoring support from Grace Lazard (15) and Aiko Urdas (eight).
