GEORGE TOWN: An 80-year-old former engineer from Hong Kong has successfully completed his PhD at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), becoming a beacon of lifelong learning and continuous self-improvement. Having spent much of his career as an engineer, Luk pursued his doctoral degree in 2017 to focus on Hong Kong’s pressing housing issues. “The programme offered distance learning in collaboration with the Hong Kong government, and I completed my PhD in five-and-a-half years,” he said. Luk said his PhD journey, while not intended to further his professional career, was more about contributing to the broader community. On his experience with the USM system, Luk expressed respect for the university’s high standards and international recognition, particularly within the realm of business education.
