The Fast Track Court in Vellore sentenced a man to undergo life imprisonment for setting his wife on fire. Additional District Judge, S. Gunasekar convicted and sentenced Mohammed Sayeed (31) of Tharaikadu in Pernambut, to life imprisonment under section 302 of Indian Penal Code and imposed a fine of ₹2,000. According to the prosecution, Sayeed used to quarrel with his wife, Sultana, suspecting her fidelity. In her dying declaration to a magistrate, Sultana said her husband set her ablaze. Based on her confession and other evidence, the judge convicted Sayeed and awarded him life imprisonment.
