(file photo)A life-prolonging drug is being fully funded for New Zealanders with advanced (metastatic) breast cancer, saving patients thousands of dollars and ultimately giving them more time. Until now, many of those living with advanced breast cancer had to pay about $6000 for a month's supply of the drug. More than 600 New Zealand women are diagnosed with advanced breast cancer - also called metastatic, secondary or stage 4 cancer - every year. Advanced breast cancer is when breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
