The National Institution for Human Rights has voiced support for efforts by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Libya. In a statement, the body said it supports attempts to end political deadlock and institutional divisions through a structured dialogue initiative launched by the UN mission. It said the process could help pave the way for elections by addressing public demands and creating suitable conditions. The organisation also expressed backing for efforts on human rights, transitional justice and national reconciliation within the dialogue framework, saying these could help resolve outstanding humanitarian issues. It called on regional and international actors to support UN-led efforts and avoid unilateral initiatives outside the mission’s framework.
