Voters lined up to choose between George Weah, the former football star and serving senator, and Joseph Boakai, the current vice-president of the country founded by freed American slaves. “This is a great day because it is a test of democracy,” Boakai told the Associated Press after voting. “We subscribe to a peaceful and free and fair election, so we know the process will be transparent. Jallah is unusual for her age in Liberia, a country where over 60% of people are under 25. “I voted because I believe participating in this election means supporting democracy and building Liberia,” he said.
