Liberia’s Ambassador Kemayah Set to be Elected as Chair of UN Fourth Committee

NEW YORK – The Fourth Committee, one of six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will on Thursday, October 4, commence its work for the 73rd Session of the UNGA with Liberia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative to the United Nations seeking to be elected as chair. In his presentation, Ambassador Kemayah recounted the many contributions of the Republic of Liberia toward the political independence of many countries in Africa. Ambassador Kemayah used the occasion to renew the commitment of His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, the government and people of Liberia toward the growth and development of Africa. The Chairmanship of the Fourth Committee would be the first for Ambassador Kemayah since assuming his duties at the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations three weeks ago. It can be recalled that Liberia last chaired the Fourth Committee 57 years ago, when Ambassador and former President of the United Nations General Assembly, the late Angie Brooks Randolph, presided over the 1961 Session of the Committee.
