With 23 minutes to go until the polls closed, Richard was one of the last calls I made on election night. He wasn’t planning to vote but I couldn’t let that go without at least trying to get him to a polling station, and ideally place a cross against the Liberal Democrats. Helping me make the case was his 13-year-old daughter, Evie. She told me how she’d been learning about the suffragette movement and couldn’t understand how her dad could even consider squandering his democratic right when so many had fought so hard for it. Later that night we got a message from Richard to tell us he’d voted — I was over the moon.…
