Liam Kavanagh to retire as managing director of The Irish Times


Liam Kavanagh, managing director of The Irish Times, has announced his decision to retire from the company after 20 years with the group, including a decade in his current role. In a note to staff, Mr Kavanagh said he was “honoured” to have played a role in developing The Irish Times over the past two decades. Mr Kavanagh, who will be 61 next month, joined The Irish Times as chief financial officer in September 2000 and was appointed to the board the following year, becoming company secretary in 2002. Mr Kavanagh is a current member of the management board of industry lobby group NewsBrands, a director of Barretstown, and a member of the finance committee of Trinity College Dublin. The Irish Times group comprises a number of leading media assets, including The Irish Times newspaper, the Irish Examiner and Echo papers in Cork, a number of regional titles and Breakingnews.ie.
