Lewis Hamilton has opened up about not feeling welcome in Formula 1 throughout his career in the sport. In 2007, Hamilton became the first black driver in F1 and has since gone on to win six world championships. However, Hamilton was more forthright in his criticism of the lack of diversity in F1 in the wake of the worldwide protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last month. Hamilton called out his fellow drivers for not speaking up after Floyd's death and talking about the Black Lives Matter movement. "It was only when wearing my helmet that I felt free to be myself.
