A group of Horowhenua taxi drivers has banded together to create a new cab company that operates under a democratic decision-making approach, giving drivers a say. Levin Taxis launched last week, after its four founders took up an offer from national taxi company and driver consortium Urban Link to support firms operating under its umbrella after the coronavirus lockdown. Graeme Galyer said he, John Wehipeihana, Kevin Quinn and Colin Finlayson, all experienced cab drivers, decided to create a company that gave drivers more of a say. Levin Taxis has launched with two mobility vans and three cars. Gayler said Horowhenua, particularly Levin, was one of the fastest-growing areas in New Zealand, so it was a perfect time to start a new taxi company.
